It truly seems that Hollywood does not want to take anymore risks with the films that it puts out to the movie-going audience. As a result, 90% of the films that come out to the theatres are dull and clones of each other.

A prime example is George Lucas's Star Wars Prequels that automatically drew in a big crowd at the box-office because Lucas already had the following from his previous films. The fans were going to see the films, including the latest revenge of the Sith even though it had as bad a storyline as the previous two. It's a win-win situation.

Comic Books: Judge Dread, Hulk, Spiderman, Ghost Rider, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, X-men, Fantastic Four.

Remakes of popular TV: Dukes of Hazard, Starsky and Hutch, Charlie's Angels, Pink Panther.

Books have also been a great source of material for those lazy studios and filmmakers who simply ride on the success of recently published books. After the tremendous success of Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code, Hollywood jumped at the opportunity to turn it into a movie. Ron Howard is set to direct and Tom Hanks - who seems to get every major role in the last decade - is set to star. The same travesty and easy-cash-in method was used for the Lord of the Rings and the never-ending Harry Potter films. The books are brilliant and surprising every time, but the movies are canned repetitions of one another and audiences still buy into it.

Or how about the remakes of the classics? King Kong who now looks more like Mighty Joe Young. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with a Willy Wonka who looks more like Michael Jackson.

Soon, Hollywood will run out of material to remake or adapt and it may have to take the same route as TV and put out reality films. The fan base for it is already growing, shown by the tremendous success of documentaries like Super Size me, or Michael Moore's controversial Farenheit/911.

There are still films out there that do cinema justice like Crash or Machiavelli Hangman, but the rest of them are setting Hollywood up for its demise. It's time to bring back the young filmmakers. It's time to bring back fresh ideas!

It has long been established that optimists live longer than pessimists, but now there is some hard evidence that people with a better sense of humor also have longer and healthier lives. Your "stay healthy" plan should include a joke and a 20-minute comedy show, to go with the broccoli and carrots.

There are now various associations and physicians specialized in the so-called therapeutic humor, who are still investigating the roles of laughter in our lives. Perhaps the most obvious of these roles is that related to the social life - jokes often allow people to connect and to bond, and sharing a good laughter is a good method to integrate in a team, to get along with the coworkers, neighbors and so on. This function is vital from the point of view of mental health, since it reduces loneliness and, with it, depression and other problems associated with it. You don't have to be trained in stand-up comedy in order to say something funny, sometimes all you need is a change of perspective or the courage to make fun at your own expense.

Humor is an invaluable asset in crisis situations, when it helps us calm down and reduce the levels of stress (and all the negative effects stress has on health). It is often considered that, among patients with very severe diseases, those with an upbeat approach, who are capable of making jokes about their situations, have the best chances to defeat the illness. So far, there have been no scientific studies to prove this, but the patients themselves report feeling better after joining an activity with humorous potential, even if it's just watching a comedy show together with some friends or with other patients.

Recent researches suggest that laughter influences more than our mental framework, it actually has a positive effect on the physical aspect as well. It has been widely accepted, for some time, that laughter increases the pain resistance level, but the theory is still not proven. In fact, very few studies have yet been made about the relation between comedy and health, but those existing seem to indicate that a good joke may lower the blood pressure, improve memory and cognitive functions and boost the immune system. Moreover, these results are not short-term only: it seems that a good sense of humor may protect you against heart diseases and alter your biochemical state to a level where the organism produces more antibodies. The lack of research in the field is due to the fact that people have always assumed that laughter is good for your health (along with an apple a day and a breath of fresh air), but little has been done to analyze this in depth.

There is also a "bad" humor (same as there is good cholesterol and bad cholesterol). This category includes the approach that makes people feel miserable about themselves, or angry, upset and vengeful, as well as the skeptic and cynic attitude, which is often the front for deep depression and indifference. Jokes directed at other people are also "bad" humor, along with ethnic, racial and sexist jokes, which are born out of frustration, not out of optimism and cheerfulness. Also, people who often make fun of themselves hide a low self esteem, which is only worsened with every funny joke they invent (there is a good reason why clowns and successful comedy actors are often perceived as sad and depressed in their real lives).

If you decide to use laughter as a therapeutic method, the first obvious issue is that there are no harmful side effects, and you've got nothing to lose. The second issue is that you can actually improve your sense of humor in time, same as any other skill or ability, by constant training and exposure to jokes and comedy. Next time you go to the movies, buy a ticket for a comedy, no matter how dumb the poster looks. When you read the paper, don't forget to check out their daily cartoon too. Spend ten minutes every day reading jokes, and, when you find some you like, share them with your friends. (And when your boss catches you reading jokes instead of working, tell him it's just therapy, he can't stop your from taking your medication at work, right?) Last but not least, try to find the funny side of the small things that happen every day around you - there is always something absurd or plain stupid going on right near you, which may provide five minutes of good laugher, which, in turn, may unblock some arteries and keep the heart attack far away.

Hollywood films have always been divided in two categories, the big budget action-adventure extravaganza and the quiet low-budget Indies. In addition to that, there is also a subcategory: the technology driven films and the human stories.

Recently in American cinema, there has been a large number of those technology fiestas including most Peter Jackson's deliveries of the three installments of the Lord of the Rings. Then Harry Potter, Spielberg's War of the Worlds, Spiderman 1 and 2, amongst countless others.

There have also been a few surprises in the story / character-driven independent flicks like Machiavelli Hangman (http://www.hangmanmovie.com), Napoleon Dynamite, Million Dollar Baby and Sideways.

It has been a rule of thumb that when a film can be one or the other, but it can never be both. Unfortunately that statement has come to be known as truth. Although some films like Spiderman 2, despite their gigantesque budgets, have tried to come close to a decent story, they haven't been able to recreate the golden age of cinema.

Before those great human stories that James L. Brooks brought to the screen like Terms of Endearment and As Good as it Gets, there were big-budget films that also dealt with the great complexities of the human psychology. Think of films like Lawrence of Arabia, Ben Hur, Gone with the Wind, Godfather 1 and 2.

These days, big budget is indirectly proportional with storyline. The closest that modern times have come to those ageless classics was Gladiator with its lavish set design and locations, but even then, the story was slim.

Titanic became the most expensive film to ever be produced and although it won 11 Oscars, it was criticized all around for its lack of story.

Those filmmakers who didn't have financial backing when they started, are the ones who got themselves used to writing with low-budgets in mind. And those who had the means all along to produce the best-looking films didn't see the necessity to concentrate so much on human stories.

Hollywood has to wake up and find a reasonable medium between the two so that we can go back to the time of those great classics that will live on beyond the years and the dollars. We are finally in an age of filmmaking where exciting new technologies are being introduced into the market, special effects and animations are achieving eye-popping visuals. Instead of relying completely on these strengths, filmmakers have to learn to incorporate them into the whole meaning of the film.

Nowadays, some dogs may take to eating their food slowly without worrying about low food supply, but their ancestors did not have this luxury. Dogs are evolved from wolves, who are very functional eaters. They are able to eat as much as 35 to 40 pounds of meat at one go, as well as other species of ancient dogs. These animals do not eat just to be full; they have to stuff themselves as much as they can for they do not know when would be their next meal. Survival instinct tells them to eat as much as possible, and they have to prey for their own meals.

Not each hunting session will turn out fruitful, and these ancient dogs and wolves have to keep up with hunting and other activities for days without eating. Their bodies are able to withstand distance and time with efficiency, as they usually feed before they hunt, and during the hunt, they will usually fast.

Teamwork is extremely important as well to help these dogs survived in the wild. They hunt in packs, and they are efficient as they work together, helping each other out and the food they hunted will be shared about all the dogs. Even among dogs, there is an existing hierarchy, and the leader usually ate first, and the other dogs may not get a chance to fill up as much. The biggest parts of the prey usually goes to the leaders as well, and the other lesser ranked dogs will have to make do with leftovers.

10,000 Years Later

Dogs and humans have only coexisted for 10,000 years, and in this short period of time, old habits still exist in some dogs which we thought of as domesticated. Your dog may be getting its meals on a regular basis, and have no competition or fears that its food will be taken away and eaten by some other dogs, but sometimes it is just unable to control its urge to just swallow everything in its food dish as fast as it can.

* OHSA Safety Standard 1910.133(a)(2) requires impact resistant lens AND "eye protection that provides side protection when there

is a hazard from flying objects."

* ANSI standards for impact resistance are outlined in article Z87.1 and Z87.3. These standards were provided to ANSI by the

American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and specifically focus on eye safety.

* U.S. Military - The U.S. Military uses a testing standard called MIL-V-43511C, which is a .22 caliber ballistics impact test.

U.S. Military eyewear must pass this standard before being issued to any U.S. military personnel.

We'd suggest choosing shooting glasses with lens that meet or exceed all three standards. If not all three, at least two. We wouldn't

take a chance with any less.

Lens UV Protection

UV radiation is the low frequency light waves produced by the sun. To provide adequate protection, look for

shooting glasses that absorb at least 99% of UV radiation. Choose shooting glasses with one of the following labels: "Blocks 99% or

100% of UV rays", "UV absorption up to 400nm", or "meets ANSI UV requirements." It should be noted that even clear Polycarbonate lens

will block or absorb UV rays, so don't become focused on the tint as playing a role in the level of protection.

Lens Coverage

Another crucial element to consider. It's imperative that the lens adequately cover enough of the eye area to provide

proper protection (See OHSA Standard above). This is especially important for the side areas of the eye. Look for lens that wrap

around past the sides of the eye for complete coverage.

What about brands and pricing? You will find several shooting glasses manufacturers on the market today. They will cover a very broad

Here are some general tips from an advanced player for all of you who are looking for an edge in this game. You may know some or all the things in this article depending on your skill level. Even if you are an expert player this article should help you remember the fundamental that make you a good player. This article focuses on individual fighting tips, perhaps a future article will address team strategy.

Weapon Combos:

From close range you can hit for a lot more damage when holding two weapons. From a distance, the battle rifle is the weapon of choice if you cannot get your hands on a sniper rifle. My favorite combo for quick kills is the plasma rifle/smg combo and the pistol/smg combo. If you aim at the opponents head and they don’t aim at your head, like most people, they will be wondering how they died so fast. The plasma rifle combo is better against multiple opponents and the pistol is more effective against single opponents. This is because the pistol runs out of ammo quickly. If you can find a plasma pistol, the plasma pistol/smg combo is not bad, but it leaves you vulnerable if you miss the charged shot or if there are multiple opponents.

Plasma Pistol/Battle Rifle:

This in my opinion is the ultimate combo. If you are at close to medium range, hit them with the plasma pistol and shoot them in the head with the battle rifle. At long range, pick them off with the battle rifle. This is a frustrating combo to fight against when the opponent is good. This is one of the reasons you see a lot of Human Slayer games now.

Grenades:

This is one of the things that separate good players from weaker ones. It takes a lot of practice to become an expert with grenades, but it is one of the easiest ways to kill someone. Use common sense, throw the grenade where the player will be not where they are right now. If you see someone running towards you, backup behind a wall and throw a grenade in their path. If you are surrounded, try to get off two grenades and you will sometimes get several kills. If you hit someone with a frag grenade, and you hit them in the head with a battle rifle, they die in one shot.

Melee:

If you are shooting someone and you can walk up to them, melee them if you can. Sometimes it is better to back up rather than melee. For example if you are dual wielding and did not get the first shot off against a single wielder, back off so you kill him rather than get meleed. Don’t forget that you lunge slightly when you melee, so use that to your advantage.

Where to walk:

Try to flank people as much as possible. For example if you are on top of big base sniping and you see someone on the radar coming up, look through or jump through the hole behind you and take them out. On ivory tower, if you are at the top and see someone coming from dark side, jump down a level and flank them. Do not run into rooms with more than one enemy, let them come to you or weaken them with grenades first, it is much easier to kill them that way.

Summary: The #1 tip I can give you is to aim for the head no matter what weapon you are using, except the shotgun. You will kill them a lot faster. Other than that, learn the maps and the weapon combos that work best in different situations.

After one more year Thorp published a book (I mentioned it at the beginning of the article) in which he rather in details, in the form comprehensible to any even a slightly literate and sensible person, set the rules of formation of a winning strategy. But the publication of the book did not only cause a quick growth of those willing to enrich themselves at the cost of gambling houses' owners, as well as allowed the latter ones to understand the main reason of effectiveness of the developed by Thorp strategy.

First of all, casinos’ owners understood at last that it was necessary to introduce the following obligatory point into the rules of the game: cards are to be thoroughly shuffled after each game! If this rule is rigorously observed, then a winning strategy of Thorp cannot be applied, since the calculation of probabilities of extracting one or another card from a pack was based on the knowledge of the fact that some cards would already not appear in the game!

But what does it mean to have “thoroughly shuffled” cards? Usually in gambling houses the process of “thoroughly shuffling” presupposes the process when a croupier, one of the gamblers or, that is still oftener seen of late, a special automatic device makes a certain number of more or less monotonous movements with a pack (the number of which varies from 10 to 20-25, as a rule). Each of these movements changes the arrangement of cards in a pack. As mathematicians say, as a result of each movement with cards a kind of “substitution” is made. But is it really so that as a result of such 10-25 movements a pack is thoroughly shuffled, and in particular, if there are 52 cards in a pack then a probability of the fact that, for instance, an upper card will appear to be a queen will be equal to 1/13? In other words, if we will, thus, for example, shuffle cards 130 times, then the quality of our shuffling will turn out to be more “thorough” if the number of times of the queen’s appearance on top out of these 130 times will be closer to 10.

Strictly mathematically it is possible to prove that in case our movements appear to be exactly similar (monotonous) then such a method of shuffling cards is not satisfactory. At this it is still worse if the so called "order of substitution" is less, i.e. less is the number of these movements (substitutions) after which the cards are located in the same order they were from the start of a pack shuffling. In fact, if this number equals to t, then repeating exactly similar movements any number of times we, for all our wish, can not get more t different positioning of cards in a pack, or, using mathematical terms, not more t different combinations of cards.

Certainly, in reality, shuffling of cards does not come down to recurrence of the same movements. But even if we assume that a shuffling person (or an automatic device) makes casual movements at which there can appear with a certain probability all possible arrangements of cards in a pack at each single movement, the question of "quality" of such mixing turns out to be far from simple. This question is especially interesting from the practical point of view that the majority of notorious crooked gamblers achieve phenomenal success using the circumstance, that seemingly "careful shuffling" of cards actually is not such!

Mathematics helps to clear a situation with regard to this issue as well. In the work “Gambling and Probability Theory" A.Reni presents mathematical calculations allowing him to draw the following practical conclusion: " If all movements of a shuffling person are casual, so, basically, while shuffling a pack there can be any substitution of cards, and if the number of such movements is large enough, reasonably it is possible to consider a pack "carefully reshuffled". Analyzing these words, it is possible to notice, that, firstly, the conclusion about "quality" of shuffling has an essentially likelihood character ("reasonably"), and, secondly, that the number of movements should be rather large (A.Reni prefers not to consider a question of what is understood as "rather a large number"). It is clear, however, that the necessary number at least a sequence higher than those 10-25 movements usually applied in a real game situation. Besides, it is not that simple "to test" movements of a shuffling person (let alone the automatic device) for "accidence"!

Summing it all up, let’s come back to a question which has been the headline of the article. Certainly, it would be reckless to think that knowledge of maths can help a gambler work out a winning strategy even in such an easy game like twenty-one. Thorp succeeded in doing it only by using imperfection (temporary!) of the then used rules. We can also point out that one shouldn't expect that maths will be able to provide a gambler at least with a nonlosing strategy. But on the other hand, understanding of mathematical aspects connected with gambling games will undoubtedly help a gambler to avoid the most unprofitable situations, in particular, not to become a victim of fraud as it takes place with the problem of “cards shuffling”, for example. Apart from that, an impossibility of creation of a winning strategy for all "cases" not in the least prevents “a mathematically advanced” gambler to choose whenever possible “the best” decision in each particular game situation and within the bounds allowed by "Dame Fortune" not only to enjoy the very process of the Game, as well as its result.

Pasta by itself is not necessarily the problem, but combine that with soft drinks or wine, then you have the Venus fly trap.

Remember years ago, the sticky strip you hung out in your back yard. Flies would fly by and stick to the strap. Well, that is what soft drinks do in your system. While you may be eating half way descent food groups (not to mention your portions) the sugar drinks act as the sticky fly trap. This hinders the digestive process.

In plain English; the longer the food stays in your system the more of a chance you have of getting fatter. The soft drinks act as barriers. In many cases when it comes to weight loss, the food combinations really get you. The biggest no-no is starchy foods with sugary foods.

If you have wine, cut down on the breads.

If you have pasta’s cut down on the wines.

If you have soft drinks, cut back on the starchy complex foods.

No matter the combination, combining pasta meals with sugary drinks is eating you up from the inside out. If you want to lose a few pounds, lose a few ounces of soft drinks in your daily diet.

For those of you who have moved into a new home or have just installed a new garage door, be sure to take the time to thoroughly read the garage door owner's manual. It may seem like a chore and take time, but one would be surprised at what they can find in most well written garage door manuals. The manual will contain safety and design information to help you insure that your garage door is safe to use and properly installed, and contain information on how to keep your garage door properly maintained.

For example, many garage door manuals will contain helpful tips for painting them. Most companies will tell you to pain BOTH the inside and outside of the garage door to keep everything even, and to never remove any parts of the garage door when painting. If you want to make sure that your garage door is completely covered in a fresh coat of paint, you need to call in a professional to dismantle it so that you can finish the paint job, and then have the garage door installed again. This usually does not happen, but again, do not try to dismantle any of the parts of the garage door. It can lead to a very dangerous situation.

Once you have your garage door installed, it is vital that you periodically lubricate most parts of it. It is often easiest to lubricate the metal parts using silicone spray that can be found at most local hardware stores. However, be sure to never lubricate plastic rollers and plastic idler bearings. It is also suggested that you check for loose nuts and bolts on a monthly basis and if you find something out of the ordinary, call in an expert to help you with your problem. Don't try anything yourself unless you are licensed and well trained in repairing garage doors.

Also, make sure to check that the door has proper balance by slowly opening the door and making sure that when the bottom of the door is waist high, it does not sway and move in any direction. Finally, using a 2x4 block of wood, make sure that the sensors on your garage works (if it is a remote-controlled door). Place the 2x4 in the pathway of the door and when the door gets somewhat close to the top of the 2x4 it should reverse direction and go back up.

If the garage door is moving, keep your distance and never stand or walk under a moving door. It is important that you set an example for your children and you do not want them under a moving garage door. You should also try to make sure children cannot reach the wall-mounted garage door openers and be sure to hide the remotes. You do not want your children playing with the garage door at all. Finally, if you think you have a problem, call an expert. Never try to fix anything yourself as garage doors are very dangerous and you put yourself in harm's way when you try to fix it, especially when you don't know exactly what you are doing. This is not the time to "experiment." Garage door springs are very dangerous, even when the garage is closed, as they contain large amounts of potential energy (that's just waiting to be suddenly converted to kinetic energy, ie movement) and have killed or seriously injured many people.

If you’re in business, you’re interested in the IRS mileage deduction rates. The 2005 rates fluctuated because of high gas prices and now the 2006 rates have been released.

Standard Mileage Deduction – 2005

In a move not seen for some time, the IRS actually issued two different mileage deduction rates in 2005. Mileage deduction rates are the dollar value per business mile traveled that you can claim as a deduction. For instance, if you traveled 1,000 miles in your vehicle on business in 2005, you can deduction 1,000 multiplied by the designated rate.

For the first eight months of 2005, the standard mileage deduction rate was 40.5 cents a mile. Using our previous example, a person who drove 1,000 business miles in the first months of 2005 would be able to deduct $405.

As we all know, gas prices went through the roof in the last four months of the year. In a tremendous move, the IRS raised the standard mileage deduction to 48.5 cents for business miles undertaken from September through December. This equates to a deduction of $485 using our example.

This increased rate only applies to the time period of September through December. It does not retroactively apply to the first eight months of the year. The IRS has not issued any directions regarding how the two different rates will be noted on 2005 tax returns.

Standard Mileage Deduction – 2006

This past week, the IRS issued the standard mileage rates for the 2006 year. The new rate for standard business mileage will be 44.5 cent per mile. This rate should be used when you prepare your tax return for the 2006 year, to wit, in 2007.

The IRS should be applauded for raising the standard mileage rate for the last four months of 2005. Still, I am sure we would all prefer lower gas prices.

Why do I need to use a condom?

Condoms are the only form of protection, which can both help to stop the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV and prevent pregnancy.

Choosing the right condom

A number of different types of condom are now available. What is generally called a condom is the 'male' condom, a sheath or covering which fits over a man's penis, and which is closed at one end. What are condoms made of?

Condoms are usually made of latex or polyurethane. If possible, you should use a latex condom, as they are slightly more reliable, and in most countries, they are most readily available. Latex condoms can only be used with water-based lubricants, not oil based lubricants such as Vaseline or cold cream as they break down the latex. A small number of people have an allergic reaction to latex and can use polyurethane condoms instead.

Polyurethane condoms are made out a type of plastic. They are thinner than latex condoms, and so they increase sensitivity and are more agreeable in feel and appearance to some users. They are more expensive than latex condoms and slightly less flexible so more lubrication may be needed. However both oil and water based lubricants can be used with them.

It is not clear whether latex or polyurethane condoms are stronger - there are studies suggesting that either is less likely to break. With both types however, the likelihood of breakages is very small if used correctly.

The lubrication on condoms also varies. Some condoms are not lubricated at all, some are lubricated with a silicone substance, and some condoms have a water-based lubricant. The lubrication on condoms aims to make the condom easier to put on and more comfortable to use. It can also help prevent condom breakage.

It’s everyone’s worst nightmare. Waking up the day before a special event to discover a big, red pimple baring itself for all to see right on your face!

Here’s how to get rid of it quickly and safely:

1. Don’t ever pinch, squeeze or pick at a pimple. This only causes it to become more red and inflamed, and will spread the bacteria and oils that caused it in the first place, to other parts of your face! It can also lead to scars.

2. Every 30 minutes, apply an ice pack to the pimple and hold it there for about 2 minutes. This will decrease the swelling and redness and help shrink the inflammation and pain that sometimes comes along with it.

3. They don’t call it concealer for nothing! Covering the pimple with a light dose of flesh-tinted concealer can help mask it when you’re in a hurry. It also helps cover up that oily shine.

4. Cleanse your skin 2-3 times a day with mild, unscented soap or a specialized acne cleanser that has no harsh chemicals (such as lye). Scrub skin gently with an exfoliating pad or washcloth, but don’t rub too hard, otherwise you’ll sap your skin of its own natural oils, which help to repel buildup naturally.

5. Apply a cream or ointment containing benzyl peroxide or salicylic acid (many over-the-counter acne medicines contain these ingredients) to the blemish or around the entire facial area. Note that these ingredients both have a tendency to dry out skin if used too much and are not recommended if you have sensitive skin.

6. Wear oil-free makeup whenever possible. These types have less of a tendency to cause the pore buildup that results in blemishes. Remove your makeup nightly and cleanse with an acne-fighting medicine to remove dirt, oil and makeup from deep within the skin.

7. If you’re in need of a quick fix, a dab of toothpaste on the affected area right before bed can help soothe irritation and reduce redness. Pressing and holding a wet tea bag or a cotton ball with a dab of lemon juice against the blemish for five minutes can also reduce swelling and redness.

If you follow these tips, chances are you’ll notice a significant difference rather quickly – often within a day or two. If pimples become a recurring problem or worsen, your doctor or dermatologist can suggest a daily skin cleansing routine that will suit your skin type. Other long-term remedies, such as facial masks, diet adjustments and increasing the amount of water you drink can also help combat outbreaks.

All flight training begins on the ground. The worst place to learn a new skill is in an airplane. It can be very difficult to grasp new concepts in the air without reviewing them first on the ground. In the plane, training in the cockpit can have other environmental issues such as cold (or hot), noisy, and bumpy.

You want to get up in the air as soon as possible and as frequently as possible. Don’t waste time at the airport studying things you could have done at home. Get your studying done before you get to the air. Some of the pilot instructors may have been guilty of skipping some of the ground training so they could get in the air quick, too.

I’ve heard that some pilots have even missed flying lessons because they didn’t do their learning on the ground and weren’t ready to go up. They had to spend their training in the classroom. What a waste of expensive instructor time.

Flight training by referring to the instruments only is hard to learn, but can be practiced on the ground. You have to do this to become a private pilot and if you want an instrument rating.

Don’t think of ground training is a waste of your money. Don’t have a bad attitude and hopefully your training pilot won’t have one either. Also, poor preparation can hinder you. Ground time can be expensive and some charge the same rate for ground time as they do flight time, but remember, the CFI has to make a living, too. Try to include a mix of ground time and flight time.

Be sure you know what is going to be covered before any lesson and find out what is expected from you. If you show up unprepared for a lesson, then expect to spend more time on the ground. You sure don’t want to have your flight time shortened or even canceled.

Remember, preparation is the key to more flight time. Your flight instructor’s mail goal in your pilot training is to keep you safe. Proper ground instruction makes flying easier and more enjoyable.

It seems as each summer passes there is an increase in the number of shark attacks being reported throughout the world. Some would believe this must mean there is an increase in the number of sharks attacking people in the water. Figuratively speaking, an increase in the population could result in an increase in attacks and more people to damage. Realistically, it means our shark attack reporting system has become more efficient.

Your odds of being attacked by a shark in the water are quite small. More people are injured and killed on land while driving to and from the beach than by sharks in the water. Shark attack injuries are also less common than injuries afflicted on the beach, such as spinal cord damage, jellyfish stings, dehydration, and sunburn. More people require sutures as a result of sea shell lacerations on their feet than shark bites.

You have a better chance of being hit by lightning, dying from a bee sting or being hit on the head by a falling coconut, than you do of being attacked by a shark.

Most shark attacks occur quite close to shore in water 6-10 feet deep, on a sandbar or between sandbars. These are areas sharks are known to feed in and they may get caught in low tide. Swimmers who are splashing and playing in these areas may be mistaken as prey. Underwater locations such as drop offs and walls are also likely attack sites as natural food sources also congregate in these areas. When a shark has attacked a diver, the shark has most likely mistaken the diver as prey or has been unexpectedly startled by a diver.

There are two types of attacks that usually involve divers in deeper waters; "bump and bite" attacks and "sneak" attacks. These types of attacks are less common than surface attacks, but result in greater injuries and the most fatalities. "Bump and bite" attacks are characterized by the shark initially circling and often bumping the victim prior to the actual attack. "Sneak" attacks are characterized by the strike occurring without warning. Repeat attempts to bite are not uncommon and multiple or sustained bites are normal for these types of attacks making these injuries usually quite severe, frequently resulting in death. Rather than being a case of mistaken identity, these attacks most likely occur as a result of feeding or antagonistic behavior.

If you are a diver, here are a few tips to help you avoid shark attacks during your dive:

• Swim in a group. Sharks are less likely to attack a group of divers and are more likely to attack a lone diver. Keep in mind you should at the very least, have a dive buddy with you during all dives.

• Avoid the water at night, dawn, or dusk. Sharks hunt at night. If you love night diving, dive with a group and make sure you have a dive lamp.

• Do not go in the water if you are bleeding. If you start to bleed while scuba diving, attempt to stop the flow of blood as soon as possible. Sharks have an incredibly sensitive olfactory system and can smell and taste blood and other bodily fluids and trace the scent back to its source. Menstrual blood may also attract sharks, but there is no indication of increased attacks on menstruating women. Many women dive safely while menstruating and until controlled tests involving non-menstruating and menstruating women occur there is no definitive or scientifically proven data that states women are at more risk of shark attack during menstruation.

• Do not wear shiny jewelry. Shiny jewelry may look like small fish to a shark.

• If you see a shark during a scuba dive, stay calm, stay quiet, and stay where you are. Most sharks are merely curious and will leave on their own. If a shark begins to get too interested in you and is moving closer and closer, it is safest to leave the water. Swim quickly and smoothly, watching the shark the entire time and keeping your dive buddy within an arm’s reach.

Martial Arts Styles:
As training in most arts has been evolving for decades and in some cases hundreds of years, there has become quite a variety of different fighting systems.

Most notably, the common ones are:

Traditional Fighting Arts – These are systems such as Karate, Aikido, Kung Fu and Taekwondo (to a lesser extent.) They are well rounded and focus a lot on the “art” aspect of the system.

Sport Fighting Arts – These are systems such as Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, exc… These are martial arts at the core but are more focused on the sport and competition aspect of the art (generally speaking).

Full Contact Fighting – These systems are fairly new and focus on actual full-contact fighting! The most common one is “Mixed Martial Arts” (MMA). Several million Americans have chronic sleep problems and insomnia. Recent studies show that exercise may improve the quantity and quality of sleep.

Researchers are not sure why exercise may help sleep, but the physical mechanism may be a change in the balance between the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. Stimulating the sympathetic nervous system causes an increase in heart rate, blood pressure and metabolic rate which are counter productive to sleep. Stimulation of the parasympathetic nervous system causes the opposite effects.

During exercise, sympathetic activity increases, but later decreases relative to parasympathetic activity. This alteration between these two systems may allow individuals to fall asleep more quickly and sleep more deeply.

1. Set the scene for laughter. If you want to lighten up your program, you might want to let the audience know this, even before you say one word. Project some lighthearted visuals as the audience is entering the room. Play some uplifting music as they enter. Or, add some humor to your presentation title or program description. Your bio, for example, can have a list of accomplishments, playfully followed by "His mother is very proud of him."
2. Poke fun at yourself. Again, even before you open your mouth, you can show the audience that you do not take yourself too seriously by adding some playful things about you in your introduction. For example, have the introducer tell the audience that you are the author of seven books which have sold well over 30 copies. Then the person corrects their mistake and says, "Oops, that is 300,000 copies."
3. Get some laughs with a prop. It has been said that learning is enhanced with visual aids. If this is true, then speakers need to enhance their talks with something to visually illustrate what they are saying. A prop is a great way to do this because it not only makes your message memorable but it can also get a laugh. Use balloons to illustrate how people can let go of their stress; an inflatable globe to illustrate how we often carry the world around on our shoulders; and a plastic hammer with which to hit yourself on the head when you goof up. All make a point and all get a laugh.
4. Tell your humorous stories. Open your humor eyes and ears and look and listen for the funny things that happen all around you. Families are an especially good resource for finding humorous stories. One such story involves the author's 93-year-old mother. Every time she goes to the doctor, she hires a van service to take her there and back. One late afternoon, it did not show up to take her home. Since the doctor had to close the office for the day, he suggested that she wait for the van in the pizza parlor next door. After waiting a long time without the van arriving, she went up to the counter and asked, "Do you deliver?" When the man behind the counter replied, "Of course, we do. We're a pizza place." She said, "Great. Then I'd like a pepperoni pizza and I'd like to go with it."
5. Borrow some witty words. While waiting for your own humor-related stories to appear, you might want to borrow some funny short quotes from famous people to lighten up your talks. Quotation books, the TV, newspapers, and magazines such as Reader's Digest are great resources for locating great quotes. For instance, if you frequently speak to hospice groups, Woody Allen's comments about death and dying are appropriate (e.g., "There are worse things in life than death. Have you ever spent an evening with an insurance salesman?").
6. Collect audience anecdotes. Sometimes audiences say the funniest things. When they do, write it down. It could be a big laugh in your next presentation. For years, I have been asking audiences, "How do you spell relief?" My answer is "L-A-U-G-H". Then one day a woman in the back row called out, "D-I-V-O-R-C-E." It got a huge laugh for her that day and continues to get a laugh for me when I retell it.
7. Remember the bottom line. For non-humorists, some of the ideas presented here may seem too frivolous for your subject matter. Nevertheless, I would still encourage you to seek some way of upping the entertainment value of your talks because it might also increase what you can charge. As Steve Allen once noted, "People will pay more to be entertained than educated."
8. Make it relevant. One final word about using humor in your presentations--make sure it is relevant. Amusing an audience for the sake of getting a laugh might be ideal for a stand-up comedian or an after-dinner humorist but it's probably not okay for most speakers. If your humor does not make a point or have a purpose, do not use it!
Tips
· When speaking to a group of people, sweep the room with your eyes so that everybody pays attention to you
· In sweeping the room, periodically make eye contact for a few moments with one person, then with another - don't appear too animated and speak to that person as though they were the whole room, then break contact and look at someone else.
· In Powerpoint presentations or similar situations, use crudely drawn pictures you threw together in MS Paint (or similar program). Make it quite obvious that you are not an artist with stick figures, incoherent blobs, and poorly drawn simple pictures, all with the brush tool. No predefined shapes, text tools, or anything of that sort. The idea of this is that you threw this picture together in paint in 30 seconds. Present it as you would any other slide, starting off with "this diagram I put together..." or anything that mentions that you did it.
Warnings
· Be careful while poking fun at yourself (step 2). If you do it, do it without losing credibility, or else no one will take the rest of your presentation seriously.
· Do not dress funny for, let's say a presentation. That is a surefire way for people not to take what you say seriously. You should be able to make people laugh and still get your message across. If you look like a clown you will be perceived as a clown.

Flirting Mistakes - 8 Things Not To Do

Being a good flirt has as much to do with not doing the wrong things as it does with doing the right things. Flirting is difficult because there's such a fine line between being successful and crashing and burning. It's so easy to do everything right, but then ruin all of your progress by making one of the all too common mistakes below.
1) Don't be crude
If you make obvious and nasty sexual innuendoes, you aren't being a turn on, you're being a pervert...unless you're a girl (then it's ok).
2) Don't ignore body language
Over 65% of communication is non-verbal. If you aren't actively looking at the way their body is shifting or what the person's eyes are saying, you're going to miss a lot of obvious signs that say "I'm into you, keep talking."...or..."You're a freak, and I don't want you around a second longer."
3) Avoid being overtly slick
It's fine to act cool, but don't go overboard. You won't seem like yourself...and that's not attractive.
4) Don't be silly
Flirting should make your target feel sexy and wanted, not entertained. You want to be perceived in a sexual way...not as the funny guy or girl.

5) Don't be excessively cute
If you act too cute (unsexy), you'll be seen as an innocent and nice person. That's great if you want to be just a friend, but not for anything more.

6) Cut your losses if it's obvious your actions aren't appreciated
If your flirtations are clearly visible and you aren't being flirted with back, it's time to pack it up and move on.

7) Don't show fear
Insecurity is perceived as a terribly unattractive sign of weakness. If you want to get your target to take you seriously, you've got to hide your nerves. This means no...stammering, fidgeting, wandering eyes (off into the distance), wavering voice, etc.

8) Avoid being overly touchy feely...unless you're a girl
This is specifically aimed at the guys. It's not appropriate to grope or touch a woman unless you know she likes you. If you aren't sure that she's into you, it's ok to lightly touch her shoulder or graze her arm...but that's it! Do not put your arm around her waist or constantly touch her shoulder or body. This will freak her out and make her feel terribly uncomfortable around you.
